HP 1630D Logic Analyzer

Christmas came at the right time this year and i got my self an old logic analyzer! I bought from an advert in a greek forum. It cost me 120 euros, which i think is a small price given the fact that brand new this instrument sold for about 12k+.Although most today's stuff are more "serial" in nature (eye-buses, spi etc) from time to time i am experimenting with old stuff which require more channels than a cheap saleae ebay clone can support.

The first thing i did was of course powering it on. It seemed ok, so i procceeded in running the self test procedure according to the service manual (more on that here (todo: link)). The second problem i had to face (i caused it) was a broken rod connecting the power button on the front panel with the power switch on the power supply. So after that i found an excuse for dissasemblying it...

The broken rod.

In the next picture you can see what's under the upper cover. On the left there's the crt and it's driving circuits. On the right you can see the psu and in the upper right the AC filer and the mains switch.

The switch (bad res.).

The rod broke from the main's switch, to fix it i used some CA and till now it seems to hold.
