Abstract

The influence is studied of the interfacial tension on the type of morphology in immiscible polymer blends. The critical composition for full continuity of the minor phase is found to increase with the interfacial tension, narrowing the composition range for co-continuity. The effect of the interfacial tension consists of two counteracting effects: the effect on stability of the morphology and the effect on the phase dimensions. The latter is smaller than the former. The model published in the paper above can quantitatively explain the experimental results.
