Abstract
Various experimental techniques and theoretical methods were developed to simulate the mixing process of a polymer suspension in a fully intermeshing co-rotating twin screw extruder. A finite element method based theoretical analysis was developed to implement the monitoring of the path lines and interfaces and the determination of strain distribution functions. The suspension rheology was considered to be a function of the goodness of mixing, which depended on the accumulated strain. Experiments in a twin screw extruder with split barrel were used to asses the validity of the simulation results.
